Dr. Correa is passionate about helping students succeed and making a positive impact in their lives. Nearly his entire career has been devoted to the engagement, retention, and success of students at large public universities, and much of his work has been in leadership capacities.
Prior to his transition to Texas A&M, Dr. Correa served as Director of the Arizona State University (ASU) Student Success Center, which provides individualized and holistic peer coaching services to thousands of students on four campuses each year. He was part of the team that led the center's growth from an initiative with about 35 staff to an award-winning center with over 100 staff serving thousands of students each year. He has also supported student success at the University of Colorado and the University of Michigan.
Originally from the east coast, Dr. Correa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degree from the University of Michigan as a first-generation, low income, out-of-state student and member of the LGBTQ+ community. He earned a master's degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education and a Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Innovation from ASU. Dr. Correa has also earned a certificate in personal development coaching from the Coaching and Positive Psychology Institute, he has completed the Foundations of Positive Psychology Coursera specialization from the University of Pennsylvania, he is a member of the International Coaching Federation, and he is Dare to Lead trained.
In addition to leading large-scale student success initiatives, Dr. Correa has had a faculty role teaching higher education graduate students for six years. Moreover, he co-authored a chapter in the book, Cultivating Student Success: A Multifaceted Approach to Working with Emerging Adults in Higher Education, published in 2022. He is the founding co-chair of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Success Coaching Knowledge Community, and he is an approved candidate on the Fulbright Specialist Roster. He is a demonstrated leader in university student retention and success.
Advice for students: Don’t put limits on yourself. As a first-generation undergraduate student, I never imagined I would go on to get a doctorate or obtain a leadership position supporting student success. Yet here I am!
